MARSEILLES, FRANCE TO ROME, ITALY | 7-NIGHT VOYAGE

The seven-night cruise immersed guests in the cultures of France and Italy. Departing from Marseille, France, the ship headed to the French Riviera and the powdery beaches of St. Tropez. The chic port is known for shopping, sun-worshipping and Hollywood star gazing.

The Itinerary

With four ports of call on the itinerary, the beautiful island of Corsica made the perfect backdrop for Royal Clipper, with stops at Calvo, Figari Beach, Bonifacio and Bastia.

Costa Smeralda on the island of Sardinia welcomed guests into its secluded coves, unspoiled bays and pink-hued beaches. Portoferraio, the final call on this sailing, is the island of Elba's largest city. The stunning scenery with buildings nestled on the slopes of a tiny hill make this one of the finest jewels in Italy.

Guests experienced culinary enrichment at a completely new level onboard, in the Bon Appétit Culinary Center where they enjoyed a personal hands-on cooking class with one of the ship's master chefs.

SOUTHERN FRANCE | 8-DAY VOYAGE

Guests enjoyed some of the most scenic vistas in the French countryside on this picturesque 8-day cruise along the Saône and Rhône Rivers featuring six guided tours with audio headset. All meals were included in this itinerary. Guests were welcomed with a cocktail reception and dinner, and ended their trip with a Captain's Farewell Dinner.

During this journey, guests visited three UNESCO World heritage Sites. They sampled a variety of French cheeses and learned to make their own fondant au chocolat.Guests also experianced Burgundian wines, lively French accordion tunes, lectures on current affairs and the painters of Provence.

Among some of the exclusives on this cruise guests enjoyed exclusive wine tastings of artisan wines not readily available to the public.

Other highlights from Viking's Portraits of Southern France include:

Burgundy Wines: Guests followed France's Burgundy wine route to Beaune. A highlight is Hôtel Dieu, a beautifully preserved hospice in the French Gothic style and owner of many local vineyards. Here, they learned about viticulture and sample a number of the regional varietals in one of Beaune's best cellars.

Vieux Lyon: On the west bank of the Saône is Lyon's intriguing Old Town. Once guests had their fill of exploring the neighborhood, they indulged in some hearty Lyonnaise cuisine.

Tournon & Viviers: During a guided tour of the area, guests discovered the region’s winemaking traditions and tasted some famous regional red wines.
